A lot of people who use AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) have heard of and use the popular site IMChaos.com, a site that provides *special* features for AIM (No, it's not hacking or anything illegal). The primary one is a service that records and allows you to view the screennames of everyone that clicks on links in your profile (IMChaos' servers host these services), which is only the best feature EVER, because it basically lets you have an idea of who is reading your away messages all the time. Sneaky and lots of fun. Anyway, this site is now beta testing a new service that would allow you to host blogs in your AIM profile!
Specifically, the site says: "Profile Blog: Host a blog directly in your AIM profile! Now buddies can read your blog (short for web log) while they read your away message. Best of all, you can secretly track who checks your blog out or posts comments!" While the feature is in beta testing and not open to public use yet, the concept of being able to introduce your blog into your AIM is very intriguing. I'm not exactly programming-savvy or anything like that so I don't know if this would be simpler than it looks, but if and when this service, as described, becomes open to everyone, I think it will be very interesting to see how they pull it off. Also, with blogging possibly being introduced into such a mainstream entity as is AIM, the implications would be big. Most of my friends have no idea what a blog is, but if they see these things popping up on AIM profiles, well, you get the idea. I'm gonna keep an eye on it and I'll post about this again if and when IM Chaos makes this available to all of us.
